You can have your say by contributing to the consultations on this website in a respectful and constructive way.

The Australian Government has strict guidelines on discrimination and intimidation. We will not respond to, or accept submissions which are irrelevant, pornographic, discriminatory, hateful or threatening.

We will never respond to, but may report, submissions or users that:

  • abuse, harass or threaten others
  • racially or religiously vilify others
  • incite, induce or aid violence, discriminate, harass, victimise or provoke hatred towards others, or are likely to offend, insult or humiliate others, particularly on the basis of their race, colour, descent, national origin, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation or any disability
  • make defamatory or libellous comments
  • use insulting, provocative or hateful language or images
  • use obscene or offensive language or images
  • use material that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
  • promote commercial interests
  • promote personal and professional interests
  • are overtly party-political comment (e.g., reference to candidates, fundraisers, support for political parties)
  • incite, encourage or make reference to conduct that may constitute a criminal or civil offence or otherwise violate Australian law.

Using this website

By using this website, we expect that you:

  • represent your own views and not impersonate or falsely represent any other person
  • do not submit material that infringes the intellectual property rights of others
  • do not be abusive, harass or threaten others, and do not make defamatory or libellous comments
  • do not use insulting, provocative or hateful language, and do not use obscene or offensive language
  • do not make unproven or unsupported accusations against individuals or organisations
  • do not conduct any illegal activity or solicit the performance of any illegal activity
  • do not submit content containing or installing any viruses, worms, malware or Trojan horses
  • do not post spam or content that is machine- or randomly-generated
  • do not make comments that are irrelevant to the topic being discussed
  • do not promote commercial interests unless requested.

In using the department's website, you agree:

  • not to attempt to modify, adapt, translate, sell, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any portion of the department's website
  • not to tamper with other persons' access to the department's website or commit unauthorised intrusion into any part of the department's website, including computers, files, accounts, networks and equipment
  • not to attempt to bypass the network firewall
  • not to use any part of the department's website for which you are not authorised or devise ways to circumvent security in order to access part of the department's website for which you are not authorised – including but not limited to, scanning networks with the intent to breach and/or evaluate security, whether or not the intrusion results in access or not

To ensure information you submit is suitable for publication, we reserve the right to redact content that would:

  • disclose personal information (in a manner inconsistent with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act)
  • be defamatory or abusive
  • violate intellectual property laws
  • encourage illegal activity
  • breach our terms of use.

Privacy

Our department is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act. The Privacy Act regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information. We also hold personal information in accordance with the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).

We use technology provided by Converlens Pty Ltd (Converlens) to provide this consultation service and website. Converlens complies with the Privacy Act and stores data securely in Australia.

Where you are asked for personal information via the online consultation form, this information will be used and disclosed for the purpose of conducting the consultation exercise. Your personal information may also be used or disclosed for other purposes notified to you or otherwise where authorised or required by law. On individual consultations, you may be offered the option to keep your response confidential. If your submission is published online, you will be given the option of withholding your personal details

You retain ownership of any comments or submissions you provide to us on this website.

However, in making a submission to our department, you grant us and Converlens a royalty-free licence to use, reproduce or publish your submission. This includes converting your submission into a different format to that submitted in order to meet relevant accessibility requirements.

If your submission contains material owned by a third party, you warrant that you have obtained all necessary licences and consents required for the use of those materials (including for us and Converlens to use, reproduce or publish), and have made arrangements for the payment of any royalties or other fees payable for the use of such material.
