About the Program
VET data is a national and strategic asset and plays a key role in the successful delivery of the National Skills Agreement (NSA). Without appropriate investment in cyber security, the Commonwealth, states and territory governments and VET sector organisations risk exposing this data to major cyber security threats.
As part of the VET Data and Evidence initiative, the VET Cyber Security Uplift Project aims to establish a sector-wide cyber security policy and a strategy and action plan to improve cyber security across all VET sector organisations. This will contribute to the initiative’s broader aims to improve the accessibility of accurate, timely and quality VET data.
The VET Cyber Security Uplift Project will:
- Create a Cyber Security Policy and Strategy for the VET sector and a strategy and action plan to uplift cyber security across the sector.
- Support VET sector organisations to improve their cyber security with guidelines, training and support for the sector to self-assess and self-manage improvements to their cyber security.
- Uplift Commonwealth data security through independent security assessments for the department, the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER)-managed systems and data holdings to ensure they are operating with best practice cyber security measures.
Benefits for the VET sector
- A consistent, sector-wide approach to cyber security.
- VET sector data is trusted and secure.
- Providers are empowered to self-assess and address their cyber security concerns.
- Commonwealth systems meet the VET cyber security policy standards.
