Todd finds his purpose in giving back
Helping people is something Todd is passionate about, so when the opportunity came up to contribute to the local community and develop his skills, Todd was eager to give it a go.
Having been unemployed for a number of years, finding meaningful work was important for Todd. Through a Workforce Australia – Work for the Dole activity with the Salvation Army, he was able to work towards achieving this goal.
A Work for the Dole activity provides participants with work-like experiences and is run by a host organisation. Activities are designed to help participants improve their skills, increase their confidence, meet new people and make contacts, while also meeting their mutual obligation requirements.
Todd’s experience with the Salvation Army helped him to develop a range of skills including retail and warehousing, which he welcomed at every opportunity. His determination and commitment paid off as other opportunities were offered to him to further develop his skills.
Following his Work for the Dole Placement, Todd continued to volunteer with the Salvation Army and obtained a forklift licence with the support of his Provider, Max Employment.
Todd was then offered an ongoing position with the Salvation Army, where he continues to flourish in his role and is looking forward to continuing to assist in helping people in a place where he feels supported and welcomed.
