Have your say: Deactivation and termination codes for employee-like and road transport workers

This content was published on Wednesday 29 May 2024. There may be more recent updates available.

The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Act 2024 introduces new protections for employee-like workers in the gig economy and regulated road transport contractors.

These new protections will encourage digital labour platforms and road transport businesses to follow a fair process when ending their contracting relationship with a protected worker.

The Digital Labour Platform Deactivation Code and the Road Transport Industry Termination Code will set out these processes, as well as other relevant matters. We are seeking your views on the proposed content of these Codes to ensure they are fit for purpose, practical and effective.

A discussion paper on each Code has been published on the department’s website.
