The independent review into the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act) has now commenced.
The SRC Act underpins the Comcare workers’ compensation scheme. The review will be conducted by an independent panel and will address all aspects of the scheme, including governance, usability and entitlements and provide recommendations to modernise the scheme.
The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Tony Burke MP, has announced the review will be Chaired by Ms Justine Ross. Minister Burke also announced Professor Robin Creyke AO and Mr Gregory Isolani as the panel members.
The review panel will identify potential reforms to improve outcomes for injured employees, and ensure the Comcare scheme has the flexibility to respond to new and emerging workplace practices, while maintaining ongoing financial viability.
Since its introduction, the Comcare scheme has seen a significant shift in who it covers, their employment conditions, and the types of claims received. This review will recommend changes to make the SRC Act fit for purpose for the future.
The review will involve public consultation with key stakeholders, details of which, including timing and how to participate, will be published on the department’s website.
