The Senate Inquiry into Non-conforming Building Products examines the impact of non-conforming building products and possible improvements to the regulatory frameworks.
On 13 October 2016, as part of its broader inquiry into non-conforming building products, the committee adopted additional terms of reference regarding the unlawful importation of products containing asbestos, and their impact on the health and safety of the Australian community.
The Interim report: Protecting Australians from the threat of asbestos was released on 22 November 2017.

The government tabled its response to the Interim Report: Protecting Australians from the threat of asbestos in the Senate in August 2018.
