Mr Rex Deighton-Smith of Jaguar Consulting, a public policy expert, was engaged to undertake the review. Key building and construction industry stakeholders, including employer and employee organisations and government agencies, were consulted during the review.
The review found, among other matters, that the activities of the Australian Building and Construction Commission are consistent with its role as a full-service regulator for the building and construction industry, and the higher penalties applying to the sector should be retained.
Final reports
On 6 December 2018, the Australian Government tabled the Review of the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016, undertaken in accordance with section 119A of the Act.
