The Australian Skills Guarantee is now in effect

Australian Skills Guarantee

The Australian Skills Guarantee (Skills Guarantee) sets national targets for apprentices, trainees, paid cadets and women working on eligible Australian Government-funded projects.

These targets apply to Commonwealth tender processes for construction and information and communications technology (ICT) projects valued at $10 million or more.

Investing in skills development pathways is critical for ensuring we train the skilled workers needed to address skills shortages. The Skills Guarantee is addressing this by encouraging greater use of apprenticeship and traineeship pathways.

Construction and ICT are two of the most rapidly growing industries, with demand expected to continue to grow in the future.

The Skills Guarantee will also drive long-term sustainable change to tackle gender imbalance in the construction and ICT sectors and increase gender diversity in the apprenticeship system.

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations consulted with key stakeholders across government and industry to inform the implementation of the Skills Guarantee. The consultation led to the development of the Skills Guarantee Procurement Connected Policy (PCP).

The PCP is the key mechanism for implementing the Skills Guarantee and provides instructions for relevant parties undertaking an Australian Government funded procurement for eligible projects.
