Three new eBooks have been developed to support educators and parents have conversations with primary school children about the range of careers in advanced manufacturing and STEM. The eBooks aim to spark imagination and boost awareness of the world of work and career possibilities by starting conversations with children at home or in the classroom
Designed in consultation with industry representatives, the Career Industry Council of Australia and the South Australian Department of Education, the 3 new eBooks are:
- What is STEM?
- How are things made?
- I wonder what I could be?
The eBooks can assist in creating Little Ripples by bringing the world of work to life through story.

Background information
In Australia, career education and information has traditionally been provided to children when they are mid-way through secondary school. However, research shows that children are already starting to make subconscious decisions about their future aspirations and opportunities from as young as seven and that exposure to different careers, jobs and industries in primary school can broaden their future interests.
This research inspired the initial suite of Little Ripples products in 2021, with many more added since then. All the Little Ripples resources aim to support parents, carers, teachers and educators, as the main influencers of primary school children, to broaden aspirations about career possibilities beyond what they might know or imagine.
The free online Little Ripples resources include a card game, activity sheets, posters; eBooks that bring the world of work to life through stories; and a selection of videos highlighting the impact parents, carers and educators can have on children's lives.
