Revised Standards for RTOs now available

The revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) (the revised Standards) are now available.  The revised Standards will come into full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025. The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will apply until then.

The Standards for RTOs are part of the VET Quality Framework which ensures integrity in the delivery of nationally recognised training. The revised Standards set out the requirements that RTOs must meet to operate in the sector, and comprise three elements:

  • The Outcome Standards
  • the Compliance Requirements (including the Fit and Proper Person Requirements and NRT Logo Conditions of Use Policy), and
  • the Credential Policy.

All RTOs registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) are required to meet the Standards.

Changes to the Standards are designed to better reflect the diversity of the VET sector and ensure they are fit-for-purpose across different RTO settings. The revised Standards provide a clearer and more direct link between the requirements RTOs are expected to meet and the outcomes they are expected to deliver.

The Minister for Skills and Training, The Hon Andrew Giles, MP said, “Revised standards will ensure students and employers can have confidence in a VET system that will deliver the high-quality training required to equip them with the skills needed.”

The revised Standards build on the early changes to the current Standards that came into effect on 1 March 2024, to alleviate VET workforce pressures and provide more immediate benefits to the sector.

As part of the changes to the Standards, some requirements have been relocated to the draft Compliance Requirements and draft Credential Policy.

A survey is open to seek feedback on the draft Credential Policy and Compliance Requirements. The survey is open until 11:59pm on Sunday 20 October 2024.
