Local Jobs Program Evaluation

This report is an evaluation of the Local Jobs Program from 2020 to 2022.

On this page:

The Local Jobs Program (LJP) was initially announced in the 2020-21 Budget, as part of the response to the economic impacts of COVID 19 to be implemented in 25 Employment Regions from 1 September 2020 to 30 June 2022.

As part of the 2021-22 Budget, the program was expanded to all 51 Employment Regions from 1 July 2021 and funding extended to 30 June 2025.

The purpose of the LJP 2020-2022 evaluation was to assess the appropriateness and effectiveness of the LJP in meeting the program objectives in the initial 25 Employment Regions over the period between September 2020 and June 2022.

The evaluation found that:

  • Overall, each of the elements of the LJP model (Employment Facilitators, Jobs and Skills Taskforce, Local Jobs Plan and Local Recovery Fund) have been implemented as intended.
  • Most stakeholders overwhelmingly value the place-based approach underpinning the LJP and the focus on local employment issues and solutions.

The evaluation report is available. The evaluation report includes a departmental response.
