Lauren’s entrepreneurial journey: How Self-Employment Assistance helps navigate challenges and bring opportunities

Self-Employment Assistance: Helping small business owners navigate challenges – Meet Lauren

Lauren turns her hobby into a thriving business.

Starting a business can be challenging, but with the right support, success is possible. For Lauren, Workforce Australia Self-Employment Assistance made a big difference.

Lauren loved illustrating and started it as a hobby business. When she moved from Adelaide City to Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, she wanted to turn her passion into a profitable business.

To help her adapt to her new surroundings, she reached out to Advanced Personnel Management (APM) employment services for guidance.

“APM was instrumental in my journey to transform my hobby business into a profitable business by providing me with support and guidance as well as the business education required,” said Lauren.

Self-Employment Assistance helped Lauren understand the challenges of running a business and gave her the tools to succeed. Through business advice sessions, she received personal support and created a business plan. “The plan was my roadmap to success,” she said.

Lauren now runs a professional and reliable customer illustration service, making sure her clients are happy with their desired artwork or designs.

A big part of Lauren’s journey was working with a mentor who provided expert advice and encouragement.

“I would have struggled to learn on my own,” Lauren admitted. “Having a mentor reassured me that I was on the right track.”

With new skills and a clear direction, Lauren is successfully running her business. She also hopes to expand by selling her work in shops and galleries across Australia. Her dream is to become a children's book illustrator.

“To reach my goal, I will present my work to book publishers and authors. I’ll also use my webpage, social media and online markets to promote my business.”

Lauren’s story is an inspiring example of how Self-Employment Assistance helps people turn their passions into successful businesses. If you’re thinking about starting or growing your own business, the program could help you too.
