Secondary school students can undertake vocational education and training (VET) while still in school to help put them on their career pathway. As a student in years 9 to 12, you can acquire workplace skills through nationally recognised training or an accredited course.
Skills for work
Vocational education and training (VET) can set you up for work by completing:
- A nationally recognised VET qualification
- Credit towards a nationally recognised qualification
Undertaking a VET course while still at school will enable you to gain industry specific skills. You will develop the skills and knowledge required to competently perform the tasks that you have trained for in the workplace.
Training you can do
Your school will have a select range of quality VET courses and vocational learning that are:
- Industry-developed training packages or accredited courses
- Regulated by the VET sector
- Delivered by a Registered Training Organisation
- Reflective of specific industry competency standards
You can check what VET training is at your school by talking to your teachers or careers counsellor.
