Gemma
Organisation: SMYL Community Services
State/Territory of training: Western Australia
Gemma previously worked in Aged Care but after taking time out of the workforce to look after her daughter, she needed help to improve her self-esteem and ability to connect with people.
Gemma completed the SEE Innovation project – New Opportunities for Women with English as an additional language. Gemma says the project helped get her out of her comfort zone and taught her how to reconnect with people.
“The thought of entering a class and meeting new people was daunting but on the first day I felt so accepted and comfortable with Candice (SEE Trainer) and the other women,” Gemma said.
Gemma has now re-entered the workforce as a National Disability Insurance Scheme support worker.
Darren
Organisation: Swinburne University of Technology
State/Territory of training: Victoria
Darren found it extremely difficult to re-engage with education. He left school early as he faced many challenges in his personal life.
At the age of 45, Darren enrolled in the SEE Life Coaching Mentoring program as a mature-age participant. Darren credits the program with providing the support and guidance he needed to achieve his goals, leading towards a career in youth work.
“Through the program you feel supported, gain confidence, and feel empowered to achieve your goals,” Darren said.
Darren’s participation in the mentoring program gave him skills to manage challenges and develop strong engagement with learning outcomes.
Darren is now working towards completing his Certificate IV in Youth Work.
Aimee
Organisation: TAFE SA
State/Territory of training: South Australia
At the start of the Dream to IT course, Aimee’s greatest challenge was overcoming social anxiety.
Through her persistence to attend and participate every day, she not only achieved this but was able to benefit from the training, learn new skills, and gain new confidence.
Aimee expressed her gratitude to all those involved in her learning journey, and had this to say:
“My goal was to graduate, which is exactly what I achieved, although I ended up achieving much more than that. If someone reaches out to you with an opportunity like Dream to IT, don’t be scared. Do the course. For me, it helped clarify what’s actually possible when you try. Anything is possible.”
