The National Careers Institute and its work

The National Careers Institute (NCI) supports Australians with reliable and accurate careers information and resources.

On this page:

Our goal is to be Australia’s recognised source of independent careers information, while collaborating with industry leaders and influencers and promoting best practice in careers education nationally.

We support the Government's commitment to strengthening and modernising Australia’s education, skills, and employment sectors.

The world-leading labour market intelligence provided by Jobs and Skills Australia informs the activities of the NCI. We partner with JSA to produce the annual Australian Jobs publication, which provides advice on finding and applying for work, how to win a job once you have applied, and explores the changing range of skills needs across the workforce.

The strategic direction of our work is guided by the NCI Advisory Board, which represents a diverse cross-section of Australian business, industry, and education providers.

Since the NCI began on 1 July 2019, we have:

Engagement with industry

The NCI will work with Jobs and Skills Councils and industry stakeholders to ensure careers information is informed by industry insights and needs. It will also support mapping of education, training and careers pathways for priority industries, including for existing and emerging occupations.
