Reconciliation Action Plan

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is committed to developing an equitable society that recognises the unique strengths of Australia’s First Nations people and empowering them to contribute to skills, training and employment outcomes that reflect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander priorities, values, and strengths.

On this page:

We place reconciliation at the core of our work to improve the policies and programs we deliver to all Australians.

To helps us achieve this, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace environment that is culturally safe and supportive for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.

The Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategy 2020-24 sets the APS-wide vision for improving the employment opportunities and experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees across the Commonwealth public sector.

As part of implementing the Strategy, DEWR is working towards developing a new Reconciliation Action Plan by working together with our employees to ensure all voices are heard and we can build our reconciliation journey together. This is an opportunity to strengthen our understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, history and diversity.
