The Information Publication Scheme (IPS) is established under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. The IPS aims to transform the freedom of information framework from one that responds to individual requests for access to documents to one that requires agencies to take a proactive approach to publishing information.

The Data Strategy 2021-2022 sets the strategic direction for the department’s data capability, handling, analysis, sharing and development. It is aligned with the Australian Government reform agenda for the Australian Public Service. It will support us to create and harness data for better service delivery and policy development, improve our approach to data sharing and management and enhance our capability with using cutting edge data analysis techniques and tools. The Strategy reflects the need to maintain public trust in how we protect the privacy of individuals, and how we use data in decision-making.
