Providing a national focus on asbestos and silica safety issues, with the aim of eliminating asbestos and silica-related diseases in Australia.
The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency was established as the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency to oversee national actions to improve asbestos awareness and the effective and safe management, removal and disposal of asbestos. One of its key roles is to coordinate jurisdictional implementation of the Asbestos National Strategic Plan.
On the 7 December 2023, the Agency’s establishing legislation, the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency Act 2013, was amended to provide the Agency with additional functions relating to silica. These include development and administration of a Silica National Strategic Plan. The Agency’s name was changed to the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency to reflect these new functions.
The Agency manages the National Asbestos Exposure Register. If you believe you have been exposed to asbestos-containing materials, you can register your details by completing the online registration form on the bottom of the National Asbestos Exposure Register page.
If you cannot complete the online registration form, please email the address provided to request an electronic form to fill out and return to the agency by the same email address.
