Workplace Reform Consultation

The Government undertook consultation on proposed reforms to the Fair Work laws over 2022-23 to better understand the views of stakeholders and the community.

A broad range of stakeholders participated in consultation, including business and industry representatives, unions, state and territory government officials and other stakeholder groups, with representatives attending consultation meetings and providing written submissions.

Submissions were received in-confidence by the Department and will remain confidential. No submissions will be published.

Following the passage of the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022, the department undertook consultation on measures included in the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Protecting Worker Entitlements) Act 2023 in early 2023.

From February to June 2023, the department undertook public consultation on measures considered in the second half of 2023.

The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Act 2023 received Royal Assent on 14 December 2023.

The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Act 2024 received Royal Assent on 26 February 2024.
