Local Jobs is a collaborative place-based initiative to ensure local labour markets work well for all Australians, in partnership with business and communities. Local Jobs supports tailored, local approaches to skilling individuals to meet local workforce needs.
Employment Facilitators
Employment Facilitators are on the ground in 51 Employment Regions and bring together local employment and skills services, employers and community organisations to connect people to training, job opportunities and support services. They focus on connecting, collaborating and building capacity within the community to help meet local workforce needs.
Each Employment Facilitator has access to flexible funding to support small employment activities and collaborative community initiatives.
Regional Workforce Transition Officers have been appointed as additional resources to assist 4 regions with their transformation to a net zero economy. These are Fitzroy Queensland, Hunter New South Wales, Gippsland Victoria and South-West Western Australia.
Please contact the Employment Facilitator in your area to find out how they can assist you, and to discuss local workforce needs in your region.
Local Jobs and Skills Taskforces
Each Employment Region has a Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce, chaired by the Employment Facilitator.
Taskforce members are highly valued and represent, and are reflective of, their community. Taskforce members work collaboratively in developing local solutions to help people gain the right skills to get a job, and in assisting employer workforce needs.
If you would like to see how your Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce could assist you, please contact the Employment Facilitator in your area.
Local Jobs Plan
The Employment Facilitator and Taskforce have developed a Local Jobs Plan, which outlines employment priorities and actions. It can be used by individuals, organisations and communities to understand their local labour market, and help inform local initiatives that assist their community.
Local data and insights ensure the Local Jobs Plan reflects the skills and workforce needs of the region.
Local Jobs Plans are updated regularly and published on the Employment Facilitators and Employment Region webpages.
Local Recovery Fund
A Local Recovery Fund is available across the 51 Employment Regions. The Local Recovery Fund supports locally driven initiatives that meet the priorities identified in the Local Jobs Plan and are tailored to the opportunities and needs identified in each region.
We encourage anyone interested in proposing Local Recovery Fund activities to contact their local Employment Facilitator.
National Priority Fund
The National Priority Fund supports projects that address structural barriers to employment or complement job creation. Specific priorities have been identified for new projects up until 30 June 2025.
