Track to Success

The Track to Success project, delivered by Workforce Specialist IPS Employment Services, aims to support up to 120 prisoners to transition into ongoing jobs in rail infrastructure and maintenance.

On this page:

The project is open to Western Australian prisoners in the last 6 months of their sentence who may be eligible for day release, and who register for Workforce Australia Services under the Pre-Release Prisoner Initiative. The first intake is due to commence on 24 June 2024, with a further 8 intakes scheduled up until late 2026.

As part of the project, participants obtain a Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure and are supported into entry level positions such as track workers, track maintainers, mobile plant operators, as well as roles in allied industries such as mining and construction.

Training is conducted on site from two prisons located in Perth, and prisoners may be relocated from other prisons across the state to participate in this program.

The project offers participants:

  • a Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure
  • a White Card
  • a First Aid certificate
  • driving lessons
  • ongoing employment in the railway infrastructure and maintenance sector
  • six months of post placement support.
